How the recipe converter works
This recipe converter rescales ingredient quantities based on the serving size you choose. If a recipe makes 4 servings and you want 8 servings, every ingredient is multiplied by 2. If you want 2 servings, each ingredient is divided in half.
It's useful for everyday cooking, meal prep, baking, dinner parties, and cooking for a crowd — and it helps avoid common scaling mistakes like forgetting to adjust small ingredients, converting fractions incorrectly, or mixing up tablespoons and cups.
What to watch when scaling recipes
- Salt, spices, and hot ingredients
- Start with slightly less than the calculated amount, then adjust to taste.
- Baking powder, baking soda, and yeast
- These usually scale with the recipe, but very large batches may need testing.
- Pan size and baking time
- Doubling a cake batter does not always mean doubling the baking time. Use the same batter depth when possible.
- Cooking temperature
- Keep the oven temperature the same unless the recipe specifically says otherwise.
